Born in Africa, where it took place for 30 years, the event has criss-crossed the deserts of South America for 11 editions from 2009 to 2019. Today, it is exploring the deserts of the Middle East, starting with those still unknown in Saudi Arabia.

Since 2022, A.S.O. has been the promoter of the FIA (Fédération Internationale Automobile) and FIM (Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme) World Rally Raid Championship (W2RC).
A.S.O. is also associated with the Peter Auto group, which specializes in the organization of vintage automobile events, including the Tour Auto Optic 2000 and the famous Le Mans Classic.
